**`msgate` is the engine that lets Claude Code, hooks, scripts and other plugins run agent CLIs.** It runs one-shot prompts and resumable conversations, in the foreground or as background jobs, records every run and what it cost in an append-only telemetry stream that takes new attributes without a code change, answers the agent rows that other plugins back with runs, and serves runs and model-call recording to those plugins through one interface, `$.msgate`.

Codex is the first provider. The provider interface is built so Claude Code can follow without changing the commands, the run layout or the telemetry.

The repository is `cc-msgate`; the Claude Code plugin, the command line, the interface and the state directory are all called `msgate`.

What it is and what it is not

`msgate` is:

a command line, msgate, that runs agent CLIs and reads back their runs, telemetry, cost and ETA;
a Claude Code plugin whose mod adds two tools (run and jobs), finish and spawn notices, a band and a status line, and the /msgate-jobs command;
the answerer of every agent row that a plugin backs with a run (see Rows the engine answers);
an interface for other plugins: model-call recording, runs and jobs (see For plugin authors).
