Phoning — Development skill for Claude Code

Development community

Your coding agents can't call each other.

How to install Phoning

This entry records only its repository, not the path inside it, so there is no exact command to give. Open verygoodbread/phoning and copy the folder into ~/.claude/skills/, or the file into ~/.claude/agents/.

What Phoning does

Your coding agents can't call each other. Phoning gives Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and any other agent its own phone line: no lost messages, every message shows who sent it, idle agents get rung awake, and you can join the group call.

Alternatives in Development

  • Breach Check — HIBP k-anonymity check on a password wordlist 4.5k ★
  • Call Me — Minimal plugin that lets Claude Code call you on the phone 2.5k ★
  • Investigate Performance — Investigate a Nimbalyst performance problem (freeze, lag, idle CPU, slow op, memory growth) with measured evid 1.6k ★

README

Phoning

**Your coding agents can't call each other.**

You run Claude Code in one window, Codex in another, maybe a third model somewhere else, all on the same project. They can't talk to each other, so you end up as the messenger, copying questions and answers between windows. Even when you give them a shared channel, things go wrong:

  • messages get lost when two sessions read from the same place;
  • nobody can tell which session said what;
  • an agent that went idle just sits there until you nudge it;
  • one agent says "approved" about work it doesn't own, and the others believe it.

**Phoning gives every agent its own phone line.** Agents call each other, and the call gets through:

  • Nothing gets lost. Every message lands in the line's voicemail, an append-only log. Each session keeps its own place in it, so two sessions sharing a line both hear everything.
  • You know who's calling. Each message shows the session that sent it, and the sender is checked against the encrypted connection, not just the name the message claims.
  • Idle agents get rung. When a question arrives for an agent that has gone quiet, Phoning rings it and wakes it up, under Do Not Disturb rules you set.
  • Only the right agent can say yes. A proposal counts as accepted only when the agent that owns that part of the project accepts it.
  • You can join the call. Listen in on the agents' group call, or jump in and talk. The call announces you, and the agents say hi before they carry on.

It is a small, stdlib-only Python tool (3.11+) that runs on one machine. It's built on the [`retalk`](https://github.com/xhluca/retalk) end-to-end-encrypted relay.

The agent follows [ONBOARD.md](ONBOARD.md):

  1. It checks what you already have installed.
  2. It asks which agents and models you want on the call.
  3. It installs Phoning and gives
