What It Does

1. You type /hooks [instagram_reel_url]
2. Claude downloads and transcribes the reel
3. Extracts the opening hook (first 5–10 seconds)
4. Identifies the hook type and why it works
5. Saves it to your local hooks database
6. When writing scripts with /script, Claude reads your database for inspiration

Requirements

• A Mac computer
• Claude Code installed
• Python 3 (pre-installed on Mac)
• Homebrew (for ffmpeg) — install here if you don't have it

The install script handles everything else (yt-dlp, Whisper, ffmpeg) automatically.

Install — Step by Step

Step 1 — Open Terminal

**On Mac:** Press `Command + Space`, type `Terminal`, hit Enter.

Step 2 — Clone the skill

git clone https://github.com/tenfoldmarc/hooks-skill ~/.claude/skills/hooks-skill

Step 3 — Run the installer

This installs yt-dlp, Whisper, and ffmpeg — everything Claude needs to download and transcribe reels.

bash ~/.claude/skills/hooks-skill/install.sh

It will tell you when it's done.

Step 4 — Restart Claude Code

Close Claude Code completely and reopen it.

Step 5 — Use it

Open Claude Code and type:

/hooks https://www.instagram.com/reel/YOUR_REEL_URL/

Claude will download, transcribe, extract the hook, and save it automatically.

Where Your Hooks Are Saved

~/Documents/Claude/hooks/hooks-database.md

This file lives on your machine and is never touched by git updates. Your database only grows — it never resets.
