README

/brief — AI leadership attention briefs

A [Claude Code](https://docs.anthropic.com/en/docs/claude-code) custom command that turns documents, proposals, and discussion threads into leadership attention briefs.

Instead of summarizing what a document says, `/brief` surfaces what needs your attention: decisions waiting on you, risks that aren't being called out, and questions that could change the outcome. It prioritizes by your role and responsibilities, so you spend your time where it matters most.

From the talk: [AI as an Engineering Leadership Multiplier](https://claude.com/resources/webinars/ai-as-an-engineering-leadership-multiplier)

How it works

`/brief` runs a four-pass analytical process on any document or thread:

Pass Question it answers
Summarize What does this say?
Synthesize What does this imply?
Interrogate What doesn't add up?
Prioritize What matters most for me?

The output is four sections: **Overview** (what's this about), **Triage** (do I need to act), **Where to Focus** (the key items ranked by impact), and **Next Step** (the single highest-leverage thing to do).

Install

Copy `brief.md` into your project's Claude Code commands directory:

# In your project root
mkdir -p .claude/commands
cp brief.md .claude/commands/brief.md

Or install it globally so it's available in every project:

mkdir -p ~/.claude/commands
cp brief.md ~/.claude/commands/brief.md

Usage

In Claude Code, type:

/brief https://docs.google.com/document/d/...

You can add an optional focus area to narrow the analysis:

/brief https://docs.google.com/document/d/... staffing risk
/brief https://docs.google.com/document/d/... timeline feasibility

It works with any content Claude Code can access: Google Docs, Slack threads, wiki pages, local files, or pasted text.

Make it role-aware

The brief gets more useful when Claude Code knows who you are. Add
