README

spine-cli

**Build, preview and export [Spine](https://esotericsoftware.com/) 2D animations from the command line, or let your AI coding agent do it.**

`spine` is a command-line interface for the Spine animation editor, built with the [CLI-Anything](https://github.com/HKUDS/CLI-Anything) approach. It edits skeletons, rigs and animations directly, renders previews you can actually look at, measures the result against your mockup, and exports runtime-ready files (including spine-unity). It ships with an **agent skill** that teaches Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Pi and 70+ other agents how to use it to make polished animations.

spine project new hero --fps 30 --images ./art
spine part add body --at 0,120
spine animation add idle
spine animation wave idle body translate --amplitude 0,4 --period 2 # seamless breathing bob
spine preview render idle --loop # contact sheet + GIF + motion map
spine export data Export --unity # .skel.bytes + .atlas.txt + pages

Why

The Spine editor is a GUI. Its own command line can only import, export and pack atlases, so neither scripts nor AI agents can build or edit animations with it. `spine-cli` fills that gap:

Without spine-cli With spine-cli
Rigging & keys Click through the editor, or hand-write skeleton JSON blind part add, bone add, animation key … validated, with undo/redo
Motion Hand-keyed, often linear and stiff animation wave (seamless loops) and animation ease (overshoot, bounce, elastic, staggered cascades)
Iteration Rebuild by hand Rig and animations live in plain-text run files; spine run build.txt rebuilds everything in one step
Seeing the result Open the editor and scrub preview render: contact sheet, GIF, motion map, plus warnings for pops, loop seams and parts that never move
Matching a mockup Eyeball it preview compare / `mea
