README
Homepage Roaster
Most B2B SaaS homepages fail the same three tests. Target buyer is "modern teams" (which is everyone, which is no one). Hero copy passes the competitor swap test. Substitute in Zendesk's name, or Intercom's, or any competitor, and nothing changes. Hero image is a purple gradient with floating geometric shapes, and nobody who looked at it understood what the product does.
This skill calls all three out. Four scores, four reactions, one summary roast. Takes two minutes.
What you get
A scorecard on four dimensions:
- Who is this for?
- Can a competitor steal this?
- Is there a reason to keep scrolling?
- What is that image?
Plus the swap test with real competitor names substituted in, priority fixes with rewritten copy, and a one-paragraph summary you can paste into a LinkedIn comment.
How to use it
Install:
# Claude Code (global)
git clone https://github.com/sarah-charlton/homepage-roaster.git ~/.claude/skills/homepage-roaster
# Cowork
git clone https://github.com/sarah-charlton/homepage-roaster.git .cowork/skills/homepage-roaster
Then trigger it with "roast [url]", "homepage roast [url]", or "what's wrong with this homepage".
The skill pulls the hero, grabs 2-3 real competitors via web search, and runs the scorecard. Works best with a browser MCP (Claude in Chrome, Claude Preview, etc.) so it can actually see your hero image. Without one, it'll tell you the image probably isn't helping, because it almost never is.
Requirements
- A Claude-based agent that supports the Agent Skills spec
- A browser MCP for hero screenshots (optional, falls back to text-only)
- A web search tool for competitor research (Perplexity, WebSearch, or equivalent)
License
MIT. Fork it, change the voice, ship your own. Just rename it before you do.
