README

cc-hands

Hands-free control of Claude Code. You speak; an intermediary agent cleans up what you said, types it into the right session, watches what comes back, and tells you about it. It's your hands when your own hands are otherwise occupied.

Installing on a new Mac

hands runs on macOS on Apple silicon. These steps take a Mac with none of it to a spoken turn, in this order. `hands check` says of each one whether it is done and, of one that is not, what does it; it exits 0 only when every step is done.

  1. Claude Code, from its own installer:

    curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash

    Then run `claude` once to answer what it asks only the first time, a theme and a login, and exit it.

  2. Homebrew's PortAudio, which the microphone is opened through, and uv. A Mac without [Homebrew](https://brew.sh) gets it first, with `brew` on `PATH`:

    /bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/HEAD/install.sh)"
    echo 'eval "$(/opt/homebrew/bin/brew shellenv)"' >> ~/.zprofile
    eval "$(/opt/homebrew/bin/brew shellenv)"

    Then, with Homebrew:

    brew install portaudio
    curl -LsSf https://astral.sh/uv/install.sh | sh
    source $HOME/.local/bin/env # puts uv on PATH in this terminal
  3. hands, from a [release](https://github.com/brandon-fryslie/cc-hands/releases), with the versions it was tested on. Set `version` to the newest release's number:

    version=X.Y.Z
    release=https://github.com/brandon-fryslie/cc-hands/releases/download/v$version
    uv tool install --python 3.12 --constraints $release/constraints.txt $release/hands-$version-py3-none-macosx_12_0_arm64.whl
    uv tool update-shell # puts ~/.local/bin, where hands is, on PATH; open a new terminal after
  4. The `claude` that starts every session under fritter, first on `PATH` ([Wrapping every session](#wrapping-every-session)):

    hands install-fritter
    echo 'export PATH="$H
