README

Claude Familiar 🐾

A little desktop **familiar** for Claude Code on Windows and Linux. It floats a mascot card on your screen and changes its face to reflect what Claude is doing **live** — driven entirely by Claude Code's [hooks](https://docs.anthropic.com/en/docs/claude-code/hooks).

Six pixel-art faces — idle, thinking, working, waiting, happy, sleeping — each glowing in its state accent
The face changes live as Claude works:  idle · thinking · working · waiting · happy · sleeping

Eight more looks — reading, editing, running, browsing, planning, compacting, a teary stumble, and a pixel gravestone
…and it wears the work on its face:  reading · editing · running · browsing · planning · compacting · oops · out of usage

Two Classic cards: a max-effort rainbow card editing App.tsx with a sub-agent badge and context ring, and an xhigh idle card with a purple ripple    The Compact panel: three session rows with effort animations, the working file, model tags, context rings, and the usage bars
Two themes, switchable live:  the Classic mascot cards · the Compact session panel

One mascot per Claude session. Sub-agents show up as little badges underneath.

The mascot is a **pixel-art creature** styled after Claude's blocky terminal mascot — 16×16 character grids rasterized to crisp pixmaps by the PySide6 (Qt) renderer (no image files). Each state has its own face with a sparkle that glows in the state's accent color. While working, the eyes match the tool (reading / editing / running / browsing); plan mode gets a pondering `planning` face;
