README

home-network-audit-en

A Claude Code skill that checks your home network against the U.S. NSA's *Best Practices for Securing Your Home Network*. It does three things:

  1. Scans the network you're connected to and lists every device (IP, MAC, vendor, best guess of what it is), flagging the risky ones
  2. Finds your router, opens its admin page and checks the firmware version, whether Wi-Fi uses WPA3/WPA2, whether UPnP and remote management are off, and whether the admin password is still the default
  3. Lists which devices should move to the guest network

**It only inspects. It never changes settings and never touches a password.** You log in to the router yourself; for anything that needs fixing, Claude tells you which menu and what to set, and you make the change.

Install

Requires [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) and Python 3.8+ (standard library only, nothing to install). Clone into Claude Code's skills folder:

git clone https://github.com/lng255639-cpu/home-network-audit-en.git ~/.claude/skills/home-network-audit-en

On Windows `~` is `C:\Users\`. Start a new conversation and it's ready. Works on Windows, macOS and Linux; Windows is the most tested.

Usage

In a new Claude Code conversation, type:

/home-network-audit-en

Or just ask, and the skill triggers on its own:

  • "Check my home network security"
  • "Run a home network audit"
  • "What devices are on my Wi-Fi?"
  • "Which devices should go on the guest network?"

Before starting, Claude confirms that you're on your own home network. It won't scan work, school, café or neighbors' networks.

How it works

Step What happens What you do
1. Scan Runs scan_lan.py, about 30–60 seconds On first use, decide whether to download the MAC vendor table
2a. Without login Reads UPnP / NAT-PMP, Wi-Fi encryption and HTTPS status from the scan Nothing
