What Epub Zh Translate does

Agent skill that translates EPUB books into Simplified Chinese while preserving structure, TOC, anchors, code blocks, and inline markup. Works with OpenCode, Claude Code, and other Agent Skills runtimes via a local, dependency-free Python pipeline.

README

EPUB Chinese Translation Skill

An [OpenCode](https://opencode.ai) skill that translates English EPUB books into Simplified Chinese while preserving the book's structure, table of contents, anchors, code blocks, and inline markup.

The skill drives a local, dependency-free pipeline (`epubzh`) that:

  • extracts translatable text and freezes
     blocks;
  • replaces inline markup with placeholders;
  • translates in parallel chunks;
  • checks segment counts, placeholders, untranslated text, and CJK/Latin spacing;
  • rebuilds the EPUB from the original source and verifies XML, links, and anchors.

Requirements

  • Python 3.11 or newer (standard library only)
  • OpenCode
  • macOS or Linux. On Windows, use WSL.

No `pip`, `npm`, or other packages are required.

Source languages

The target language is always Simplified Chinese. The source book must use a Latin-script language with space-separated words, such as English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, or Portuguese.

Languages without spaces (Japanese, Korean, Thai) and non-Latin scripts (Russian, Greek, Arabic, Hebrew) are not supported yet: the pipeline detects translatable paragraphs by Latin letters and sizes chunks by whitespace, so those books would be skipped or chunked incorrectly.

Installation

The repository root is the skill directory. OpenCode derives the skill ID from the directory name (`epub-zh-translate`), so keep that name.

Global installation

git clone https://github.com/iniself/epub-zh-translate.git \
  ~/.config/opencode/skills/epub-zh-translate

Project-local installation

git clone https://github.com/iniself/epub-zh-translate.git \
  /.opencode/skills/epub-zh-translate

A project-local install behaves exactly like a global one. The book project (`book.toml`, `work/`, and so on) is still created at the location you pass via `--base` or as an absolute path; nothing is written into the skill directory.

  • Keep the directory name epub-zh-translate; r
