Now and then Claude uses a more articulate word in its replies. Those words are highlighted, and you can click one to see what it means right where it appears. Every word you meet goes into a deck you can review with a quick quiz whenever you have a few minutes. On a deadline, turn it off and Claude writes plainly again.

Install

At the prompt of a Claude Code terminal session:

/plugin install vocab --marketplace gabrielantonyxaviour/claude-vocab

Answer `y` to add the marketplace, then pick a scope (user scope loads it in every session).

From a shell:

claude plugin install vocab --marketplace gabrielantonyxaviour/claude-vocab

Then run `/vocab-setup` to tell it about your work and turn it on.

**Requirements:** a Claude Code build with mods (function hooks), which are in early access; built and tested on Claude Code 2.1.306. Clicking a word needs the fullscreen terminal layout (the default, unless you turned it off or run inside tmux).

Commands

Command What it does
/vocab Shows the current settings and the command list
/vocab-on · /vocab-off Turns it on or off; takes effect from the next reply

How it works

  • While it is on, the mod adds one short section to Claude's system prompt asking for an occasional precise word, mar
