README

gdoc-comment-extractor

A [Claude Code skill](https://docs.anthropic.com/en/docs/claude-code/skills) that extracts all comments, suggestions, and tracked changes from a Google Doc and saves them as a CSV.

Google Docs has two types of feedback visible in the sidebar:

  1. Comments — threaded discussions anchored to highlighted text
  2. Suggestions — tracked changes (add, delete, replace, style)

Most tools only extract comments. This skill extracts both, from all tabs in a document.

Install

claude skill install /path/to/gdoc-comment-extractor

Or clone this repo and add the skill directory to your Claude Code configuration.

Prerequisites

Requires the [Google Workspace CLI](https://github.com/googleworkspace/cli):

npm install -g @googleworkspace/cli
gws auth login

See [GWS_SETUP.md](GWS_SETUP.md) for detailed setup and troubleshooting.

Usage

Share a Google Docs URL with Claude and ask it to extract comments:

Pull all comments from this doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/abc123/edit

The skill will:

  1. Fetch comments via the Google Drive API
  2. Fetch suggestions from the document body via the Google Docs API
  3. Combine everything into a CSV saved in your working directory

Output

A CSV file named `{Document Title} - comments.csv` with these columns:

Column Description
type Comment, Add, Delete, Replace, or Style
tab Document tab name
author Who left the comment
highlighted_text Text the comment was anchored to
comment The comment text
original_text For suggestions: deleted/replaced text
new_text For suggestions: inserted text
resolved Whether the comment is resolved
created ISO timestamp
replies Semicolon-separated replies

How it works

Google stores comments and suggestions in two completely different places:

  • Comments live in the Drive API (drive.comments.list) — they
