A practitioner's notes on Claude Code setup, written for the person about to pick a plan and wondering which tier actually includes the terminal tool.

Claude Code is bundled with the paid consumer tiers rather than sold on its own, so the setup decision is really a subscription decision. Anthropic lists Claude Code under Pro and above, which means the free tier is not the route in. Developers who live in a terminal and already have a repo to point it at get value on day one; people who mainly want a website or a small app built for them are paying for a workflow they will not use, and Begin.sh turns a prompt or a URL into a downloadable project without any of this setup. The caveat worth reading twice: the pricing page states that usage limits apply and that plans are subject to change.
