Bring your old MacBook Pro's Touch Bar back to life. Clawd wakes when you start a session, thinks while Claude is reasoning, works while tools run, celebrates when they finish, and goes to sleep when the conversation ends.

What is this?

A love letter to a piece of hardware Apple gave up on. If you have a 2016 to 2021 MacBook Pro with a Touch Bar, you've spent years watching it sit unused. Now it has a job: showing you the live state of your Claude Code session as an animated friend.

No menu bar item. No notification spam. Just a small character above your keyboard, walking around, doing what you're doing.

Install

Requirements:

  • A 2016 to 2021 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar hardware
  • macOS 13 (Ventura) or newer
  • macOS Command Line Tools (free, ~600MB): xcode-select --install
  • Claude Code installed

Then:

git clone https://github.com/b-barri/clawd-touchbar.git
cd clawd-touchbar
make
open Clawd.app

`make` compiles the Swift sources, bundles a tiny `.app`, and ad-hoc signs it. No Xcode, no Apple Developer Program, no 7-day expiry. The build takes about 15 seconds.

Configure

Clawd listens on `127.0.0.1:53777` for hook events from Claude Code. The first launch shows an onboarding window with the exact snippet to paste into `~/.claude/settings.json`, with a "Copy" button.

If you'd rather wire it by hand, add this to your settings file:

{
  "hooks": {
    "SessionStart": [{ "matcher": "", "hooks": [{ "type": "command", "command": "curl -s -X POST -H 'Content-Type: application/json' --data-binary @- http://127.0.0.1:53777/event" }] }],
