Terminal Handoff

**A persistent session-control and handoff system for Claude Code on macOS.**

Terminal Handoff lets one Claude Code *task* outlive any single Claude session. When a session fills its context window, ownership of the task is transferred automatically to a fresh successor that continues the same work. The task is also securely controllable from an enrolled iPhone (or another authorised device) over a private Tailscale network, while the actual Claude Code process keeps running on your Mac, inside a project you registered, under your own Claude login.

The idea that ties it together: a **logical session** is the persistent thing (its ID, name, project, instruction queue, STOP state, approvals and history), and individual Claude processes are **replaceable workers** underneath it. A phone talks to the logical session, never to a process, so it keeps controlling the right worker across every handoff.

**Version 1.4.0.** Physical iPhone acceptance was completed on 2026-09-20. See [Acceptance evidence](#acceptance-evidence) and [Known limitations](#known-limitations).
